There are issues. I did a clean install to 9.04 beta, and that works much better. Still no 3D though. Working on suspend resume, it passes their torture test fine (SD card ends up mounted read only though), however resuming via the power switch leaves the card unmounted.

So I know what I am writing about next, getting suspend/resume I expect.

And a tip for today, enable CPU scaling.

open a command prompt,
cd /boot/grub/
back up the original (use what ever date or versioning you want)
sudo cp -p boot.lst boot.lst.20090312
edit the first line begining with "kernel" to add the following to the end:
acpi_osi="!Windows 2006"
I am not going to go into enough depth to walk someone through this who doesn't know how to edit a file as root.
My line looks like this:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=fd46592a-6dd0-4ecf-9d5b-3b71954df40f ro quiet splash acpi_osi="!Windows 2006"

Then reboot, right click on the bar at the top of the screen, pick "add to panel", add "CPU frequency scaling monitor", and then configure it.

Now your CPU speed (and thus power consumption) will vary based on how much you are making your CPU do.

Anyhow, more later.Ronald Pottolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12052424704490061291noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3638096810755555421.post-14937874901870631622009-03-06T13:22:00.000-08:002009-03-06T13:26:33.886-08:00Anyone who wanna manage the blog?!Since i lost interest in my Hp 2133 and sold it this blog got to keep on going..right?
If there's anyone out there that's interested in manage this blog please email me at marcus.wiberg@live.com with information about your knowledge in Ubuntu and what you've got working so far on your Hp 2133 with Ubuntu.

Thanks guys!

Marcus Wiberg
Marcus Wiberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17941802711868447617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3638096810755555421.post-83222723384762145192009-01-10T22:16:00.001-08:002009-01-22T11:01:34.230-08:00Yes, it's working!!I was almost ready to throw my Hp 2133 out of the window due all the problems with it and Linux. But i finally got it working on Ubuntu, the blog reader "Thibault" told me his Ubuntu 8.10 works perfect but he installed Ubuntu 8.04 and used the built-in release upgrader to upgrade it to 8.10, so i took his advice and tried it... And surprisingly it worked just fine, but ju need to add <l><l>live forcevesa</l></l> But people on forums in registered to reported Ubuntu 8.10 should work without installing 8.04 and using the upgrader.

NOTE: You need to add <l><l>live forcevesa</l></l> and you cannot install when using the latest BIOS, you need to downgrade. F02 worked fine for me.

Wireless and Bluetooth - Wireless works after installing the recognized driver, bluetooth work out of the box .

Ethernet - Works out of the box

Sound - Works out of the box (I've noticed that sound can be turned up to a volume that the speakers cannot handle, be careful.)

Cardreader - Works out of the box

Graphic - The Via driver still got a lot to go, the vesa driver works better then i tought it would, Youtube and videos with small resolution works great. When i boot and try to start the live CD i get Kernel Panic, tried booting into different boot options but with no success, i also read on Ubuntu's wiki page and it says that everything should works fine... I have also tried with different BIOS updates like F02,F03,F04,F05 with no result.
I was able to install Puppy Linux and Damn Small Linux, but they really look like crap and i rather run Windows seven on it which works terrific. Can someone please confirm their Hp 2133 is working with Ubuntu 8.10? Im still working on it..Marcus Wiberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17941802711868447617noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3638096810755555421.post-12629874985144104222008-12-24T16:33:00.000-08:002008-12-24T16:35:18.343-08:00Merry Christmas! My hp 2133 arrived 6 days late due Christmas and bad weather conditions, im currently working on getting Ubuntu 8.10 work, be patient!!Marcus Wiberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17941802711868447617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3638096810755555421.post-86101299359457030322008-12-16T13:19:00.000-08:002008-12-16T13:41:46.408-08:00Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Codec guide
Thanks to Ubuntu1501.com blog for their easy codec guide!
(please not that vlc media player will not be installed with this guide, if you want to install it go to the app guide)

This guide will allowing you to play Flash, Java mp3, aac, DVDs ,mp4, avi, wmv and many more formats.

In a terminal type:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex can not play encrypted DVDs or use certain Windows codecs out of the box. Before i decided to sell my dell 1501 i installed the lastest ati driver but seriously it's like playing around with windows 98, compiz work pretty good though. Gaming and watching HD movies was a big joke so i really hope the drivers for the via card is better then the drivers from AMD.

Via is working hard on their drivers and they recently released beta drivers click here to check it out. I will release an install guide for the drivers, probably next week.
If someone already installed them please post a comments and/or suggestions!Marcus Wiberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17941802711868447617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3638096810755555421.post-66400722081567394572008-12-10T17:08:00.000-08:002009-02-04T10:33:44.255-08:00Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Install OptionsSince Hp 2133 does not have a CD/DVD player we got to use a different method to install Ubuntu.

The first method is to download Wubi, if you haven't heard of Wubi i recommend you check it out!
Wubi is a installer that will install ubuntu with just a few VERY easy steps in Windows. When you're done with the installation reboot, after reboot it will give you an option to boot in to Windows or Ubuntu choose Ubuntu and it will take some time for the installer to finnish, then you're done with the complete installation, if you want to remove it later just go to add/remove software in Windows and uninstall it.

The second method is using a Usb flashdrive. It's also very easy.
